Opening Night

Opening night of the TSO season has become a ritual heralding the arrival of the fall, and a don't-miss event in the area. The 2006-2007 Season will open on September 23 and 24 with a festive concert gala, including red carpets, decorations, sparkling grape juice, and a program celebrating the varied musical moods of old Vienna... from playful to profound. The first half of the concert will feature Johann Strauss's Overture to Die Fledermaus, Hungarian Polka, Pizzicato Polka, and The Blue Danube. Reflecting the remarkable artistic growth of the ensemble, the second half will mark the TSO's first performance of one of the greatest symphonies of all time - Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 1 "Titan." Audience members are encouraged to dress in their finest or in traditional Viennese attire for these festive performances.
Symphony Ball

Symphony Ball is the annual major fundraising gala held on behalf of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. Held in late spring, the event features a gourmet meal, live auction, silent auction, raffle drawings, lively entertainment and dancing. This event, which raises over $50,000 annually, plays a major role in supporting the TSO and the proceeds benefit all of the TSO programs: its 15 concert subscription series, the Saturday Family Symphony series for children and their parents, the ensembles of the Traverse Youth Orchestras and outreach programs in area schools. The 2007 Symphony Ball  will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa.

Music & Menus

Begun in 2005, Music & Menus is a festival of fine dining and musical entertainment presented by generous hosts, featuring talented musicians from the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. Set in the area's finest homes, each event is a unique culinary experience and a feast for the senses. Proceeds from Music & Menus benefit the music education programs and concerts of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. Tickets for Music & Menus events range from $40 to $100 in including a tax-deductible donation for one-half the ticket amount.

The next Music and Menus events will be a Mardi Gras party at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. Tickets will be $65 ($32 tax deductible) and are available at 947-7120. Summer events will be announced in the spring of 2007. For further information or to register, contact the TSO offices at 231-947-7120!

Car Raffle

Now in its second year, the Car Raffle was begun in 2005 by members of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra Associates (TSOA) as a community and national fund-raiser for the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. The 2006 raffle raised $12,000 to support the TSO, with tickets sold both locally and nationally.

TSOA Events

The Traverse Symphony Orchestra Associates (TSOA) provides assistance, including fundraising, to the Traverse Symphony Orchestra through a variety of special events and other activities. TSOA Home Tour

A rare treat and a magnificent testament to the Northern Michigan lifestyle is in store for area residents and visitors each fall during the TSOA Home Tour. This annual event, which raises approximately $10,000 each year for the TSO, highlights four-six homes and residential spaces during the tour. The influence of nature and the beauty of the region is always demonstrated in the comfortable and expressive homes of the Traverse region featured on the TSOA Home Tour.

Meet the Maestro

Meet the Maestro is a series of three or four event held throughout the season, which gives attendees the opportunity to meet Maestro Kevin Rhodes, enjoy fun, food, and fellowship while hearing lively discussion on a variety of musical topics, lead by the energetic and captivating Maestro. The 2005-2006 events include an evening at a local winery with a discussion of how to listen to new music, a luncheon at a local restaurant with a lecture on music and dance and an evening at the Music House Museum with a panel discussion with musicians of collaboration in performance. Ticket for Meet the Maestro range from $15 to $35, with dates announced each fall. For further information, contact the TSO offices at 231-947-7120.

Classique Junque

Each spring, the Traverse Symphony Orchestra Associates holds its annual "Classique Junque" sale, a rummage sale with a "classical" twist. "Classique Junque" is a great place to find some extremely "classy" stuff, from high-end antiques to sporting goods and garage sale "treasures". All the proceeds from Classique Junque benefit the performances and education programs of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. Typically held in April or May, donations for Classique Junque are received throughout the spring with the one-day event open to the community.

Geranium Sale

Throughout the spring and summer flowers are in bloom all over the region - but the Traverse City's musical "flower," the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, is always in bloom! The 13th annual Traverse Symphony Orchestra Associates "TSO in Bloom" Geranium Sale, held in the spring of 2006, raised over $6,000 to support the TSO and helped beautify hundreds of local yards and businesses. Geraniums can be ordered throughout the spring, with a pick-up day held in mid-May. For further information about the Geranium sale or to be put on the mailing list, contact the TSO office at 231-947-7120.
